It was my mistake to avoid ‘caste census’: Rahul Gandhi at AICC’s OBC program

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi on Friday spoke at the Bhagidari Nyay Mahasammelan organised by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) OBC (Other Backward Classes ) cell at Talkatora Stadium. Addressing the OBC party workers, he acknowledged that it was his “mistake” that the party could not conduct a caste census earlier. He said that he is correcting it now.

Rahul added that in his political career of 21 years, he committed a mistake of not protecting the interests of the people of the Other Backward Classes as much as he should.

Gandhi said that the caste census in Telangana is a “political earthquake” that will lead to a major “aftershock” in the country. Reflecting on his career, Rahul highlighted that there are two to three big issues where he felt he fell short. These include the land acquisition bill, MGNREGA, the food bill and the fight for tribal rights.

Heavy rains have caused significant waterlogging in Warangal, Telangana. While the downpour provided welcome relief from recent high temperatures, it inundated roads and disrupted traffic in low-lying areas. News footage shows several streets submerged, highlighting the impact of the intense rainfall.

Local authorities are reportedly on alert, anticipating further rainfall in the coming days and preparing for potential challenges. This incident underscores the vulnerability of certain areas to heavy monsoon rains. Although the much-needed respite from the heat is appreciated, it has come at the cost of disruption and inconvenience for residents.
